Local Interests
Within walking distance the extremely well equipped town of Castro Verde has several restaurants, coffee shops and a choice of three supermarkets with excellent fresh fish, meat and deli counters.
Eating out locally is extremely good value for money. Typically a two course lunch time “meal of the day” “Prato da Dia” including: bread, olives, a beverage and coffee costs from 7.50 euros per person. A two course evening meal including: bread, olives, a good bottle of wine and coffee, costs between 40 – 50 euros for two persons. A coffee or tea and locally made pastry from one of our many coffee shops costs just 2 euros. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to quality regional wines. We recommend you take a personally guided tour before you wine and dine at one of our stunning local vineyards.
Castro Verde has a health center with A&E (accident and emergency) plus a 24hr pharmacy. A large open air market is held on the 1st Wednesday of every month. The town has boutiques, hardware and household shops. There is a post office, several banks with cash points, public library, night club, public swimming pools and tennis courts, along with a spa offering various therapies and treatments. The town has a coach station, several petrol stations, a cinema/theatre, several churches, a cultural center, tourist office and a museum.
With all these amenities Castro Verde still maintains all the Portuguese culture, architecture and traditions of a beautiful historical town.
The Alentejo Region provides the most amazing backdrop. See our Gallery ” A tast of the Alentejo”
